Different types of Partner visas: 

Prospective Marriage Visa subclass 300:

This visa is for those who want to enter Australia to marry their prospective spouse who is an Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen, and then apply for a Partner visa. This visa allows you to enter and stay in Australia for between 9 and 15 months from the date of the visa grant. If you get married then you may apply for a Partner (Temporary) visa subclass 820 before your prospective marriage ends. 

Partner (Temporary) visa subclass 820:

  • This partner visa is for those who are already in Australia and have a spouse or de-facto partner who is an Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen. This is a temporary partner visa that leads directly to Partner (Permanent) Visa subclass 801.

Partner (Permanent) Visa subclass 801

  • This visa lets the de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen live in Australia permanently. It is usually only for people who currently hold a temporary Partner visa (subclass 820).

Partner (Provisional) visa subclass 309

  • This partner visa is for those who are outside Australia at the time of application and have a spouse or de-facto partner who is an Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen. This is a temporary partner visa that leads directly to Partner (Migrant) Visa subclass 100. 

Partner (Migrant) Visa subclass 100:

This visa lets the de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen live in Australia permanently. It is usually only for people who currently hold a Partner (Provisional) visa subclass 309.
